One
of the two cherubs, which used to look down from some 50 feet above street level
from the top of the Victorian Market Hall, was found in a garden near Whitchurch
in early 2005. This has since been acquired by Chester City Council and has been
put into store while opportunities for using it in the new market hall are being
explored. The Victorian Market Hall was opened on 10th March 1863 - the same day
as the marriage of HRH the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII) to Princess
Alexandra. Chester Corporation integrated the opening of the market hall with
celebrations for the Royal Wedding including a procession led by a riffle band.
